BG MAXX Thermal Adhesive is a professional-grade, sew-free film adhesive engineered for permanent applications, no stitching required. Developed with premium ester polyurethane, it delivers fast, reliable bonding across a wide variety of materials including leather, textiles, plastics, and metals. BG MAXX is machine-wash and dry clean durable, heat-efficient, and certified safe for both people and the environment. When it comes to production output, BG MAXX is 33% faster than its competitors due to its higher melt flow index. You just increased the output of each hat press by up to 50%!

Originally formulated as a leather patch hat adhesive, BG MAXX has become the go-to solution for brands applying leather logos, patches, and emblems using a heat press. Whether you're decorating trucker, structured, or performance hats, this film-backed adhesive ensures professional, lasting results. For those stitching in addition to using the BGMAXX, you are able to achieve an excellent bond in about 10 seconds due to its lower softening point of about 200°F (93°C).

Application Instructions for BG MAXX Thermal Adhesive

Step 1: Apply Adhesive to Patch Backing (Flat Press or Hotronix® Clam Press)

  • Temperature: 250°F – 270°F
  • Time: Press for 4–6 seconds
  • Pressure: Firm, even pressure is essential for proper bonding
  • Surface Protection: Use Teflon or parchment paper between adhesive and top platen. Be sure that the surface of your decoration is facing away from the heated platen or heat source.
  • Cooling: Allow to cool completely before removing liner or handling
  • Note: This step bonds the BG MAXX to your patch material (e.g., leather, faux leather, PVC, fabric)

Step 2: Apply Patch to Hat (Hotronix® Auto Clam or 360 IQ® Hat Press)

  • Temperature: 260°F – 300°F for both top and bottom platen
  • Time: Press for 30+ seconds (longer for thick patches or rigid hats)
  • Pressure: Firm pressure required; use foam pads to ensure even compression on curved hats
  • Surface Protection: Use Teflon or parchment paper to prevent scorching
  • Cooling: Let cool for 2 hours before handling and 24 hours for a full cure and strongest bond.
  • Note: For structured hats, use a 1/4" foam pad under the hat and a 1/8" foam pad above the patch if needed. All hats and decorations are different, so Temperature, Time, and Pressure will need to be tweaked along the above guidelines. User testing recommended.

Iron Application Instructions (For DIY & Craft Use)

  • Temperature: Set iron to a low-medium heat (260°F – 300°F); do not use steam
  • Placement: Position patch and place a pressing cloth (e.g., parchment paper or thin cotton fabric) over it
  • Time & Pressure: Press down firmly for 25–30 seconds; do not slide iron
  • Repeat: For large patches, work in overlapping sections
  • Cooling: Allow to cool completely before removing liner or handling
  • Tip: Test on scrap material to dial in temperature and time for your iron model

General Recommendations

  • Always pre-test settings on scrap material before bulk production
  • Let adhesive cool to room temperature before testing bond strength
  • For heat-sensitive hat styles (like foam truckers), begin at the lower end of the heat range
