Conceria La Perla Azzurra, Dakota LV, Leather Double Shoulder

Dakota LV is a full grain, vegetable tanned leather with an embossed grain and firm, structured temper. The base leather is the Dakota tannage, a vachetta leather with a smooth grain and tight flesh. To make the Dakota LV, the leather is embossed to create a uniform, pebbled appearance seen in many luxury leather products. It is drum dyed and struck through for consistent color throughout. Best suited for rigid bags, purses, wallets, furnishings, and other projects requiring structure, Dakota LV is a strong choice for makers looking for firm vegetable tanned leather with a clean, consistent embossed surface.

The Tannery: La Perla Azzurra - Tuscany, Italy

  • Conceria La Perla Azzurra was established in 1967 and is a founding member of the consortium of tanneries in Tuscany that produce 100% vegetable tan leather.
  • The tannery is Silver rated by the Leather Working Group and certified for sustainability by the ICEC, the Institute for Quality Certification for the leather sector.
  • The ethos of the tannery is to focus on top natural ingredients and traditional methods to produce high quality, long lasting leather. They use 'quebracho' tanins from Argentina and only European hides, mostly from France, which is well-known for durable yet supple hides preferred by the fashion industry.
  • Vachetta leather is a special type of vegetable tanned leather that uses animal fats (tallow) and oils, as well as other natural vegetable oils. Vachetta leathers tend to be softer than other veg tan leathers such as bridle and harness.
  • Great yields. You will find that nearly the entire full grain double shoulder is usable.
  • These leathers are commonly used for higher end leather goods such as wallets, handbags, purses, briefcases, key fobs, and other small accessories.
