Conceria La Perla Azzurra, Missouri Leather Panel

Missouri is a naturally milled, hot-stuffed leather with a smooth, waxy surface and a subtle pull-up that becomes more pronounced with use. The tumbling process gives it a soft, slightly pebbled grain, while the rich aniline dye and pull-up wax finish add depth and warmth to the color. It’s easy to burnish, easy to handle, and well-suited to projects that are meant to wear in, not out. Over time, Missouri develops a character that reflects how it’s used—quietly individual, and never quite the same twice.

The Tannery: La Perla Azzurra - Tuscany, Italy (est. 1967)

  • Conceria La Perla Azzurra was established in 1967 and is a founding member of the consortium of tanneries in Tuscany that produce 100% vegetable tan leather.
  • The tannery is Silver rated by the Leather Working Group and certified for sustainability by the ICEC, the Institute for Quality Certification for the leather sector.
  • The ethos of the tannery is to focus on top natural ingredients and traditional methods to produce high quality, long lasting leather. They use 'quebracho' tanins from Argentina and only European hides, mostly from France, which is well-known for durable yet supple hides preferred by the fashion industry.
  • Vachetta leather is a special type of vegetable tanned leather that uses animal fats (tallow) and oils, as well as other natural vegetable oils. Vachetta leathers tend to be softer than other veg tan leathers such as bridle and harness.
  • 100% Aniline finish: The use of transparent aniline dyes allows the unique grain texture of the hide to be visible.
  • Great yields. You will find that nearly the entire full grain double shoulder is usable.
  • These leathers are commonly used for higher end leather goods such as wallets, handbags, purses, briefcases, key fobs, and other small accessories.
