Caiman Belly Leather, Full Skin, Exotic Leather

What is Caiman Leather: Caiman leather is from the same family as crocodile leather and alligator leather. Argentine caiman is considered the best for its exceptional softness and structured scale pattern, and the belly area the choicest part of the hide. Our caiman skins are farm-raised in the famous Santa Fe region of Argentina and cut along the back to preserve the entire belly for use. Because of its rich coloration, supple character, and long-lasting resilience, Argentine caiman is a popular choice for luxury handbags, premium footwear, and fine accessories.

Argentina’s strict government regulations ensure ethical and sustainable farming, maintaining healthy populations while producing consistently high-quality hides. Each skin is tanned at the source, preserving the natural scale structure and durability while using a process to enhance both flexibility and strength. Once processed, the hides are finished in the USA, where expert craftsmen refine the texture, enhance color vibrancy, and perfect a final finish worthy of high-end luxury goods. Our extensive selection of colors of caiman belly leather and other varieties of exotic leather skins is the largest in the USA.

Source: Our caiman skins are farm raised in Argentina where the meat is used for consumption. A percentage of hatched juveniles are released in the wild to maintain wild populations.

How to Work with Exotic Leather

Working with exotic leathers follows many of the same techniques as traditional leathercraft, but with a few key considerations. Exotic leathers often benefit from added structure, so we recommend gluing the leather to a layer of bovine leather or another material backing using Intercom Glue or Barge Cement. To add extra strength and to reduce stretch, add a layer of Corazza Reinforcement between the layers. To ensure clean, smooth edges, it's best to glue first before cutting. With the right preparation, exotic leathers can be cut, stitched, and finished just like traditional leather, adding a distinctive touch to any project.

Exotic Leather Grading

All of our Exotic Leathers are grades 1-2, consisting of the highest quality available. Leathers of this grade are generally expected to yield 80-90% of usable surface grain area. Like any full-grain leather hide, there may be natural cuts, marks, wrinkles, or other natural characteristics to the uncorrected-grain of the skin. None of our exotics have brands.

All of our Exotic Leathers are sourced and imported following the highest standards. We ensure to meet all the regulations overseen by CITES (The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). CITES is an international body supported in agreement of governments around the world for the responsible and sustainable trade of wild plants and animals to ensure the long-term survival of all species.
