Color Families: Scrap boxes are organized by color family. For the families that contain a variety of colors and leather types, we try to vary the colors as much as possible, but depending on the selection at time of packing the box could contain all one type/color.

• Scrap bundles come with both large and small remnant pieces cut from all areas of the hide. These pieces are great for small leather items, trim, repairs, practice, wallets, key fobs, test pieces, and many other leather projects.

Grade: Scrap comes from the same top-grade leathers we sell as panels, straps, sides, etc. Please note that scrap remnants will often come with imperfections, irregular shapes, mixed grain areas, or other natural variation.

About Newbury Leather Types:

• American Bison: Made from North American bison hides and has a more textured, varied grain than standard cow leather. It is lightly tumbled for a semi-soft feel, then waxed and oiled for pull-up. Since the grain is natural and not stamped, texture will vary across the hide.
• Balmoral: A premium full grain leather with a smooth look and feel, modest pull-up, and rich color. Made by a family-run tannery, this tannage is well suited for luxury bags, wallets, footwear, and accessories.
• Craze: A heavily hand-distressed leather with bold character and a naturally aged look. Finished with candle wax, aniline dyes, and oils, it has a vintage surface that cracks, crinkles, and develops a lived-in feel from the start.
• Crazy Horse: A rugged, heavily waxed leather with strong pull-up and a distressed matte finish. Waxed, oiled, and hot stuffed, it highlights the natural grain characteristics of each side, giving every piece a unique, worn-in look.
• Nappa: A premium full grain leather made from USA cattle hides. It has an ultra-soft feel, subtle distressed grain, and excellent durability. The milling process gives it a refined, breathable texture while preserving the leather’s natural character.
• Tortoise: Produced from North American Bovine Cow hides. Full grain, hot waxed, and tumbled, this leather features natural pebbling and aggressive pull up. Vibrant colors in the pull up offer rugged and high contrasting tones making for incredibly unique products! The leather has a Semi-Soft hand with a highly waxed surface. The natural tumbling allows certain areas of the side to have a tighter pebbling and other areas to have a looser pebbling.
• Ostrich Embossed: A top grain cowhide leather embossed with an ostrich pattern for a rustic, authentic look. Made from USA hides and finished in Italy by a Gold Rated tannery, it is well suited for premium bags, wallets, apparel, and small leather accessories.
• South Street: An exclusive Buckleguy leather that is hot stuffed, triple waxed, and oiled for strong pull-up and a waxy feel. It has minimal bounce back, meaning it holds its shape when bent or scrunched, making it ideal for bags, boots, gloves, accessories, and premium leather goods.

How much scrap leather will I get?

How many pieces of leather are in each scrap box depends on the weight, thickness, and shapes of the leather remnants. Below are just examples of typical yields for scrap leather boxes. Every box is unique and contains pieces of many varying shapes, sizes, and usability.

• Light Weight (2.5-7.5oz) – Approx. 5 sq ft per pound
• Heavy Weight (8-12oz) - Approx. 2.5 sq ft per pound

Is scrap leather a deal?

Yes! Our scrap leather boxes are made up of the same quality leathers we sell in larger cuts, just marked down because of the odd shapes and remnant mixture. These boxes are a great option for smaller projects, testing, repairs, and leatherworkers who want top leather at a lower price.
